Own your backend forever

Self-hosting, our license, and why there is no rug to pull.

The Concile Team · Sat Sep 12 2026

You should not have to rent your own backend.

Too many tools give you a great start and a quiet trap. Your data lives on their servers. Your prices are set by their board. The day they change the terms, you have nowhere to go. We did not want to build that. So we made a different promise.

Run it anywhere

Concile is yours to host. In development it is one command. For production, run docker compose up with one container and one volume, or compile your whole app into a single binary. It runs happily on a five dollar server. Your data sits on a disk you control.

Start with the embedded database and zero config. When you grow, switch to Postgres with one flag. Same code, no rewrite.

The license, in plain words

Concile uses the FSL-1.1-Apache-2.0 license. Here is what that means for you.

  • You can use it, change it, and self-host it, including for commercial work.
  • The one rule: you cannot resell Concile itself as a hosted service.
  • Every release turns into full Apache 2.0 after two years.

So the code you depend on today becomes fully open in two years, no matter what. That is a promise with a date on it, not a vibe.

No lock-in

Your storage stays portable. Your functions are plain TypeScript. There is no vendor to call, no quota to beg for, and no switch anyone can flip to hold your app hostage.

Own your data. Own your server. Own it forever. That is the deal, and we wrote it down so you never have to take our word for it.
